Ghosts

Screen Scotland and BFI NETWORK in association with Take Three and Forcan Films Ltd
Dir: Inma de Reyes
Producer: Jess Kelly

Thirteen-year-old Aaron (playing himself) spends his days in his attic conducting meticulous ghost-hunting experiments. Armed with spirit boxes, EMF readers and a night-vision camera, he listens closely to the subtle creaks, clicks and hums of the home, convinced that presence can be measured if you know how to detect it.

Downstairs, his mother moves through her own routine: busy with phone calls to teachers, half-written emails, microwaved meals left on the counter. She speaks about her son constantly, but rarely to him. Their lives overlap in sound but not in conversation.

As Aaron’s investigations grow more urgent, the boundary between paranormal search and personal longing begins to blur. The house becomes a shared instrument: footsteps, static, kettles clicking off, floorboards shifting. Each noise feels like a possible message. Each silence lands heavier than the last.

When Aaron’s recordings finally reach his mother, both are forced to confront the distance between them. In a home filled with signals and interference, they must decide whether to keep communicating through devices or risk speaking directly.

Filmed on location in Edinburgh in April 2026, the project is currently in post-production.
